One thing is for sure: if elsewhere the flowers are already in bloom, in the Lungau region, due to its altitude of more than 1100 meters up to 2450 meters, even now the best conditions can be found to draw tracks in the snow. 26 cross-country trails totaling about 200 km in length offer boundless variety. For the ambitious fan of skating technique, there are ca. 150 km of skating ski trails available. The high-altitude trails in Schönfeld-Thomatal, on the Prebersee, in Mariapfarr-Lignitz and on the Katschberg guarantee excellent snow conditions until well into spring. Access points for the cross-country trails are within comfortable reach using our regularly scheduled public buses . Enjoying the sun in the snowy valleys, cross-country skiing is pure relaxation. You inhale clear, healthy air and admire the nature enchanted with hoar frost nature – this is cross-country skiing in the Lungau region.
Every year in January the famous balloon week, “Fire & Snow”, takes place. Up to 40 hot air balloons daily start their journey here. To kick off the balloon week, the now traditional “Night Glow” takes place. Hundreds of spectators are expected every year. Everything is dedicated to the team, which will get up the balloons above the heights of the Lungau this week, daily, from 10:00 am.

Nordic Walking is joy and love of movement in the varied Lungau nature. In the Lungau region, there are ideal conditions for the perfect exercise of this innovative, relaxing and gentle way of getting around. A wide network of trails for all ages offers a variety of opportunities to discover the Lungau region and its people.
FREE USE OF LIFTS 70+
There is a special for our seniors. In the ski resorts Aineck-Katschberg, Fanningberg and Großeck-Speiereck the seniors can enjoy free skiing mostly the second week of January. It is important to present a valid ID (cutoff date is the 70th anniversary of the year of birth) and a valid registration card (with evidence of at least 7 nights spent in the Lungau).
Whether under the flood lights or just before dawn, among the nearly 15 toboggan routes in the Lungau everyone finds his or her favorite. In addition to the numerous toboggan opportunities for children, mostly immediately near the lifts and suitable for skid plates and kids’ bobs, there are natural toboggan runs of varying length and difficulty in nearly all the 15 locations. They are particularly suitable for an evening of sledding fun.
